Swimming Pool
Our beautiful blue swimming pool varies in depths from 3 to 7 feet and has a handicap-accessible ramp which is also great for small children. Guards are provided for Virginia Camping Ministry camps and events. Other camps and retreats can either provide their own guards or include guards in the rental agreement.
The pool is open to the surrounding community from season open to close generally sometime in late May-early June until sometime in September. We accept donations to help with operating the pool, but community swims are generally swim at your own risk. Children cannot be left to swim alone. The pool (along with the picnic shelter) is also available for birthday, sports team, or other group parties by reservation. As the schedule is somewhat dependent on when it will be in use by the camps, the specific schedule will be posted below and updated as needed.
A bit of history: The original pool from early in the 1900's was a draw & fill pool where creek water was piped into one end and overflowed back into the creen at the other end. By the time the church bought the property in 1959 or shortly after the pool was upgraded to add a pump and filtration system. However, the walls were still the original plastered rock walls and floor. In the mid 1980, new walls and floor were installed inside the old pool raising the depth by about 15" and installing entirely new plumbing.
